There are two Chinese words close to the English word Brainstorm, but 
nothing exactly.
1. 胡思乱想   but it is a negative word.
2. 开动脑筋   this one is better， it means Accelerate Your Brain.

|脑力激荡|腦力激盪|--could be for only one and a group of people. But this is just an ok phrase in H.K. or Taiwan. 

If there were no such phrase in simple Chinese, try |构思|構思|, |发想|發想| or 
the definitely ok edition－－|动脑想想|動腦想想| or |灵光乍现|靈光乍現|。

|集思广意|集思廣意| could be ok too。

Otherwise, 脑病暴发 is too frightening!

the difference is that 头脑风暴 is more appropriate for a group of people. 
If it is an individual who has a flash of inspiration 突发的灵感 is the 
better option

Brain-Storm = tūfā  de  línggǎn  Sharp-edged inspiration
              突发  的   灵感  ( Outbreaking  inspiration )

 脑病     暴发  Brain illness breaks out,

It is a little weird isn't it. Also the fishy one , I also get fish 
smells  of  fish .  I put them through the QQ translator that I use and 
got the following which when translated back sound OK.
Brainstorm = nǎo   shénjīng  zhèndàng  = Brain Nerve Concussion
             脑    神经      震荡

Brain-Storm = tūfā  de  línggǎn  Sharp-edged inspiration
              突发  的   灵感  ( Outbreaking  inspiration )

Fishy on QQ gave me :-

Fishy = kěyí  = Suspicious
        可疑
